The Bryce Brown Show: Part 2

The Bryce Brown recruiting saga just keeps getting more interesting. Like I said last week, Brown, who’s the #1 prospect in the nation, didn’t sign his letter of intent on National Signing Day and will now wait until March 16th to make up his mind. Now this is fine because players have until April 1st to sign. But one thing people don’t realize is that a scholarship mush be re-issued every 14 days after NSD. So what’s interesting about that? Well a source close to the University of Miami has said the school won’t re-issue a scholarship to Brown unless he signed it before midnight of last night.

Bryce Brown has played games with Miami for quite some time. After committing to the ‘Canes more than a year ago, he’s now been listening to his mentor Brian Butler on what to do. And it looks like Miami’s head coach Randy Shannon is done playing this chess match. At Miami you’re either with The U, or you’re not. Randy Shannon is all about recruiting kids with a “team first” attitude. Don’t think for one second that if Brown doesn’t end up signing with the ‘Canes that they’ll be losing sleep over this. The 2010 recruiting class is loaded with stud running backs and the top four, Eduardo Clements, Brandon Gainer, Giovanna Bernard, and Jakhari Gore (Frank Gore’s cousin) have all listed Miami has their top choice.

To say the recruiting game has gotten out of control is an understatement. High school football players seem to have control over big time universities. But if the rumor out of Miami is true, I think everyone should applaud Randy Shannon for what he’s doing. It’s time for coaches to show these kids who’s really in control.

I feel sorry for Bryce because he’s being brain washed by Brian Butler, a money hunger guy who shouldn’t be influencing a high school kid and quite possibly wrecking his future. Bryce’s father, Arthur Brown Sr. said earlier this week that if it were up to him, he would’ve had Bryce sign with Miami back on Feb. 4th, playing alongside his brother Arthur at The U.

So what’s the next move? We’ll have to wait and see if Miami doesn’t offer Bryce again or if it’s their time to play mind games like him.

Stay tuned for the next scene in this show.
